Look @ me now
This project has challenged me because I am not good at expanding moments that have happened in my life. Usually I just write about 2 sentences or so but in this project I expanded that to a paragraph. Another thing that challenged me was when I needed to think of a theme for my life, I don't really think about what the theme of my life is and I have trouble with finding themes for regular things to. Something that was pretty easy in this project was talking about the setting in my life because I've lived in the same house for my hole life and I know almost the hole area. I felt quit comfortable while presenting my poster because I felt like there was no reason to be nervous. I revived feedback from my classmates and the feedback was a little helpful because they said to add a little more pictures and said that I spoke clearly and were interesting. I provided feedback to Matthew and said that he presented well and the poster looked pretty good but he could have more pictures and be a little more descriptive. I think that I was on task during class time because I finished almost all of it in class and didn't get distracted more then 2 times witch is certainly growth for me, I usually get distracted about 10 times. I think I deserve at least a B because I described in detail each part except for foreshadowing and protagonist. I don't think there would be anything I would want to change about this project because it seemed like a good intro project to get back into the mindset of school.
Banned Book
This project was challenging for me because I don't really like and I am not very good at reading or making videos. The easiest part of this project was the potluck because it is easy for me to talk about the book and find things that involve it. I didn't really feel comfortable making the video because I am not good at making videos. I didn't bet any feedback on any part of my project and I didn't really give feedback to anyone. yes I read the book I choose witch was The Lord of The Flies. the grade I think I deserve would have to be a B or so because I read the book and did the journals but I didn't do the video when I should have done it and didn't turn it in on time. I have no clue what I would change in this project.
Cultural Connections
In this project we learned about dia de los muertos and Mexican culture. We made shoe box ofrendas witch are smaller versions of ofrendas, a lot of people used shoe boxes but we didn't have to use them. I didn't use a shoe box, I used two boxes and made a temple sort of thing. We also made artist statements for our ofrendas, mine is right here. In these artist statements we wrote about why we chose certain things in them, who they represent, and why they are important to us.
The challenging part of this project was building the ofrenda. This was challenging because I didn't know how to make flowers and i wanted to do something else other then a shoe box. The reason my choice to not use a shoe box was challenging was because I couldn't find the correct pieces until the last week and they were hard to glue together when it kept falling. The thing I enjoyed most about this project was learning about the Myans and Aztecs, i enjoyed this because I didn't know much about them and it was interesting to learn about them and how they were able to grow crops so well and make buildings. Through out this project I only got critique on my ofrenda and it was helpful to me for making it better. Some of the critique I got on it was to add a name so that they know who it is for and to include more color. Sadly I couldn't add a lot more color because I couldn't paint it when I already glued everything to it but I put some green decorations to add a little color. For this project I think that I deserve at least a B because my ofrenda could be better but I still contributed in the exhibition by explaining to the elementary kids what dia de los muertos is and about the ofrendas. I also wrote a bunch of notes about the Aztecs and I did all the writing in my journal except for two entry's. Although this project was great something that I would change would be how late we had critique, I think that we should have given critique at least 4 days earlier.
Renaissance Fair
In this project we learned about the renaissance and got characters such as wood worker architect artist etc. After we got our characters we researched about what they did, how they did it, who they knew, their personality, what there family life was like etc. Then we prepared for exhibition, we needed to have a writing piece and props we also had too dress up like how our characters would dress. Something that I liked about this project for this class was learning about how people lived because it is cool to know how different or similar other cultures behaviors are to my own and making the characters was pretty good too. This project was a little challenging for me because it was difficult researching about wood workers in the 1400s, there wasn't that much information about it. I got critique on my writing piece from classmates and the teacher which helped me quite a bit, it helped me think of more things to put on it and what would make it better. I'm happy with what I did for exhibition because I feel like I knew what I was doing and my setup looked nice as well. I answering the visitors questions acted in character and my group worked well with the flow of the booth so that made it better.
Worlds Fair
In this project we chose country's that we wanted to research about in 1800 to 1920 and then find an invention they made. Once we found something they invented and brought to a worlds fair we made a prototype of it, got critique and then made final version for exhibition. Through this project I learned that Russia had great politics like Alexander II who created a program of domestic reforms that included the emancipation of the serfs and helped re-establish Russia as a great power in Europe. I learned this by researching for my essay which was 5 paragraphs describing why the country we choose is the best.
My group and I decided to recreate a train and carbon arc welding, we chose this because they seemed like interesting inventions and we wanted to learn more about them and be able make and present them. After seeing the final products at exhibition I am glad we decided to make them, they turned out looking really good.
At first we were planning on making a plane as well as the other two so we made a prototype for a plane as well. While making the prototypes we had to find the blueprints of the inventions and make them from that. It was a little hard finding them but we eventually found some for the train and carbon arc welding and found something like that for the plane. All the prototypes looked quit decent when we finished and then we had to get critique, one we got critique on them we moved onto designing the final. We decided to not do the plane because doing three products would've taken more time then we had so we just made the train and carbon arc welding. During exhibition there were a ton of other groups with different countries and the one that seemed the most interesting was Japan. I wasn't able to go around to the other booths but japans looked really cool and intriguing, their product was a park or city and they had art that was about japan that looked very good and I wish I was able to go to their booth to learn about what all of it was and why they made them.I feel pretty proud of my booth because we had two tables one with a Russian flag with the essays on it and the carbon arc welding. The other table had a black table cloth with the train and our propaganda piece, we also had Russian songs playing during the exhibition.
I think this exhibition turned out great, everyone did great, had great products and tables and they all seemed to know what they were talking about.
Career Day
For this day we shadowed people in jobs that we want to do in our future and learn from them. We first researched possible jobs that we could shadow and then found some top 3 jobs that we want to shadow and email them. once they responded we would set up what time we could do it and then we write questions that we would like to ask about how they got to where they are. Once we got there we would help them out with what they do and learn about how they do it. I went to sunny side kitchen in Escondido, they are a restaurant that sells Paganini's and pastries. It is family owned and they started in a farmers market and were able to buy there own building and make their restaurant. Some questions that I asked were, how did you get to where you are? How do you make a profit from your sales? How do decide on what to focus on in your restaurant, quality, price, or service?
Decades Project
In this project we choose a decade and a country or a city to research. Then we choose 4 artifacts to do that represented that decade and place, we also had to make a choose your own adventure book and read a book that connected to our place and decade. My group and I choose to do London in the 1960s and read the book The Body. The artifacts that we choose to create were the Words Words Words which is one that we got some speeches that happened in London in the 1960s and wrote about each one like, what they meant what they are talking about and why we choose it. Another one that we did was the art piece along with the a dance called the swim. For the art piece we made it more based on culture then anything else and for the dance we chose to do the swim and we had to explain how it came about who made and how to do it. The last artifact we did was London foods, this was one that we choose a popular food item in London in the 60s and we choose fish and chips. we wrote the history for it and the recipe in a small book so that it would look like a recipe book. Then we made a presentation to show the class and explain everything we did and learned through this project.
During this project I learned a lot about the political and cultural aspects of London. I learned that there were protests and unions like the equal rights for women protest and the seamen's union and they went through three prime ministers in the 60s decade. For culture I learned that feminism started to rise, fashion changed, women started wearing short skirts and bright colors. Also a lot of people wanted peace and the kids had a lot more freedom than their parents because the war ended and the parents wanted their kids to be more free and have no war. Some connections I see between London 1960s and USA 2018 would be feminism protests, some fashion is similar, and along with a lot of new dances being made. My personal favorite artifact would be either the painting or the recipe book. These are my favorites because My personal favorite artifact would be either the painting or the recipe book. These are my favorites because I really like how they look and I feel like I did really well on these. I learned most about the culture aspect of this project and I based a lot of the artifacts on that. If I could change one thing about this project I would have changed the time it was launched because it was during MUN and the college road trip which made it hard to work on the project. The book we read was about 4 kids in the 60s that go looking for a body of a missing child And as they do find the body they learn to adapt to situations more and they become closer as a group. And though they eventually find the body, they realize the harsh reality and return home and inform the police. Then the final chapters depicts each of the Character’s Journey through life.
